The World Packaging Organisation has recently honored several Finnish companies with its prestigious WorldStar awards, recognizing outstanding achievements in packaging solutions. These accolades are reserved for packaging solutions that have previously excelled in recognized national or regional competitions. This year’s competition drew 488 entries from 41 countries, showcasing the global significance of these awards.
Among the Finnish winners is a groundbreaking recyclable plastic-free pouch created from wood fiber-based packaging by Paptic. This innovative solution, utilizing Paptic’s renewable material, allowed Puukin Tila, a Finnish farm, to replace plastic in its onion packaging. Petri Puukki, owner of Puukin Tila, expressed the motivation behind the eco-friendly choice, stating, “We wanted to make a difference and sustainably pack our locally produced onions. The material selection keeps the onions fresh for longer, and the new packaging looks fresh!”
Stora Enso Packaging earned recognition in two categories. First, for its transport and display packaging for cut flowers, crafted from 97% renewable and recyclable materials. The second acknowledgment went to its environmentally friendly gift packaging solution for the local vineyard, Ainoa Winery, known for its award-winning berry wines.
Pyroll Packaging’s collaboration with PackageMedia introduced an interactive element to paper-based lids on yogurt containers, impressing judges with its creative approach. DS Smith Finland, a subsidiary of DS Smith, received an award for its solution for Temal, a local company, featuring a mono-material solution made entirely from 100% renewable sources. Additionally, Boxon in Finland was recognized for its corrosion prevention box, and lauded for its material inserts that effectively protect electronic components.
These achievements highlight the commitment of Finnish companies to sustainable and innovative packaging solutions, showcasing their dedication to positively impacting the environment.
